Service Description

An effective organizational approach to learning is a crucial factor to academic success for students, but some students may find developing good study habits hard to do. This is an interactive 15-hour group program with specific curricula focusing on middle, high school, college, and adult learners. Initially, students start by taking three professionally prepared inventories to determine their own individual learning strengths and weaknesses. Next, the left-right brain inventory helps students discover how to utilize effective strategies to accommodate their brain dominance. Finally, students take a learning modality inventory to determine their visual, auditory, and kinesthetic preferences. All this information, helps us create a learning profile. As learning and study strategies are introduced, students practice applying the specific strategies that complement their own learning style preferences. Topics covered include: listening, taking notes, learning to survey vocabulary in context, asking useful questions, taking charge of your learning, memory, reading flexibility, and gaining from discussions. Study Skills is also offered as an individual (1-on-1) tutoring service to students; if interested, please call us at (301)-593-3700 to speak with an educational specialist.
